Black Headed
Pythons Aspidites melanocephalus
Our small colony consists
of 1.1
large, older adults and 1.1 sibling pair born in mid 2006. The
large adults are completely unrelated to each other and to the 2006
siblings. The two large adults have
nice coloration, and the female has an unusual 'purple' hue to her body
along with a slight 'calico' influence (see pics below). The
female is just shy of nine feet long and approximately 18 pounds.
The male is nearly eight feet long and approximately 16 pounds.
2008 marked our first season of reproduction
and we could not be happier hatching 5 of 7 viable eggs. More
pics of babies will be posted after they all are eating well.
Blackheads are simply amazing snakes to work with. They have a
size and appearance that is powerful and strikingly beautiful.
Their jet black heads and necks are ominous and an incredible contrast
from the rest of their body.
